Somatic terms

Somatic simply means relating to the body.

Somatic Therapy is a type of mental health counseling that focuses on sensations that are felt in the physical body in order to release the negative experiences, trauma, and stress that get stored there. It is a valuable tool for reclaiming your nervous system and improving mental and physical health.

I was trained through the Visual and Somatic Therapies (VAST) program and practice both Somatic Listening and Somatic Mapping. I am one of less than 40 people worldwide who has recieved this training, and it is some of the most profound therapy I have experienced.

Somatic Listening is the art of deep listening and providing somatic cues to begin to deactivate old hurts. This can take a few sessions for your nervous system to feel safe enough to fully discharge the held pain and start to regulate.

Somatic Mapping is a way of working within the psyche to identify core wounds and the strategies that were created to protect yourself from these wounds. It is being able to provide these wounds with what they need to heal and integrate. It is also a way to discover your core self, and learning how to move from wounds back to self.
